Avianca means ‘Airways of the American Continent’ and is the national airline of Colombia. Its operation dates back to December 1919, making it the second oldest airline in the world after KLM. They are the second largest airline in Latin America after LATAM of Brazil and Chile. El Dorado International Airport in Bogota D.C. is their main hub. In 2009, Avianca merged with TACA creating a group of eight airlines under the Avianca Holdings. In 2010 they joined Star Alliance allowing them to do code-shares with United Airlines. Currently they fly to 187 destinations in 27 countries, including Panama.
